Women’s clothing size guide

Use this chart as a general starting point. Sizing can vary between brands and styles, so the product’s own size chart takes priority.

Body measurements — centimetres

UK size Approx. size Bust (cm) Waist (cm) Hips (cm)
6 XS 80–81 63–65 86–88
8 S 83–84 65–68 89–92
10 S 87–88 70–71 94–95
12 M 90–93 74–75 99
14 M 94–98 79–80 104–106
16 L 99–103 84–85 109–111
18 L 104–111 92–93 116–117

These are approximate body measurements, not garment measurements. The ranges reflect differences between brands and are not exact fit limits. Letter sizes are approximate. For inches, divide centimetres by 2.54.

How to measure

  • Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level.
  • Waist: Measure around your natural waistline without pulling the tape tight.
  • Hips: With your feet together, measure around the fullest part of your hips.

Choosing your size

For tops, start with your bust measurement. For trousers and skirts, check both your waist and hips. For fitted dresses, check all three measurements. Check garment length separately on the product page.

If you fall between sizes, consider the fabric, cut and your preferred fit. For a non-stretch style, the larger size may be more comfortable. Always follow any product-specific sizing advice.

If a product chart shows garment measurements, compare them with a similar item you own that fits well. A flat chest width is not the same as a full bust circumference.

Extended clothing sizes: XL–5XL

Size labels commonly continue as XL, 2XL (XXL), 3XL (XXXL), 4XL and 5XL. There is no single UK-number equivalent across all brands. Some styles are available up to 4XL or 5XL; check the size options on the product page.

The tables below show garment measurements, not body measurements. Compare them with a similar garment you own. These examples cover the named styles only; other garments with the same size label can measure differently.

Women’s extended sizes

Reference for our Belted Two-Tone Midi Dress. Measurements in centimetres.

Size Bust Waist Length
XL 100 86 119
2XL / XXL 106 92 120
3XL / XXXL 112 98 121
4XL 118 104 122
5XL 124 110 123

Men’s extended sizes

Garment chest and length ranges across our Textured Jacquard Polo Shirt and Stand-Collar Pullover. Measurements in centimetres. These are garment-size ranges across two styles, not body-fit limits.

Size Garment chest Garment length
XL 120–125 76
2XL / XXL 125–130 78
3XL / XXXL 130–135 80
4XL 135–140 82
5XL 140–145 84

For other men’s tops, trousers and shorts, use their individual product charts. Check chest and shoulder measurements for tops; check waist, hips and inside leg for bottoms. Do not use a women’s chart to select a men’s size.

Comparing garment measurements

Lay a similar garment flat without stretching it. Compare like-for-like measurements: chest width is measured across the front, while chest circumference measures around the garment. Check the product chart’s labels before comparing. Allow for your preferred fit and follow any product-specific stretch or fit notes.

“Plus-size” describes an extended size range. “Oversized” describes a deliberately roomy cut and does not mean the same thing.

How to measure your feet

  1. Stand on a flat surface with your heel against a wall.
  2. Measure from the wall to the tip of your longest toe.
  3. Measure both feet and use the longer measurement.

Fit tips

Measure in the afternoon where possible. If you are between sizes or have wider feet, the larger size may be more comfortable. Fit can vary with design and materials; follow the product’s own size chart and fit notes where provided.
